Note
The Reference Composition Salinity S_R} can be calculated from the salinity S in PSU (Practical Salinity Unit) using the dimensionless unit Practical Salinity Scale (PSS) as S_R} =c·S with c = (35,16504/35) g/kg. For seawater of Reference Composition, S_R} gives the best current estimate of S_A} . If composition anomalies are present, S_A} can be calculated from the seawater density or estimated from a global mapping of the Absolute Salinity Anomaly dS = S_A} - S_R} .
