- To make a declaration for a product that does not have a fixed mass one must specify the unit type (for example, cm, m, cm², m², cm³, l, m³, etc.) and provide the mass of 1 unit type of the product. For example, the mass of 1 m of copper wire, the mass of 1 m² of steel sheet, the mass of 1 litre of paint. For discrete parts (e.g. resistors, capacitors, screws, housings), one should set the unit type to 'each'. See IEC TR 62474-1, 3.2.10 (to be published).
